Definition
A wooden or metal bar that is typically smooth and rounded on the upper side and which typically runs the length of a stairway. The bar may either form part of a balustrade, supported by balusters or may be attached to the wall by means of metal brackets. Used to provide support to a person ascending or descending the stairs when grasped by the hand.
