- Definition
- A shirt-like garment that has shoulder straps or sleeves of varying lengths, and that generally extends down to the hemline of the outer dress. It is often trimmed with embroidery and lace. Used by a woman for modesty and warmth. Worn directly over the skin or under a corset, also used to protect the outerwear from soiling caused by the body.
