Definition
A self-supporting column of solid combustible fuel, such as tallow, stearine, spermaceti, beeswax, or, more commonly, paraffin wax, with an internal wick. Generally long and slender, it is made either by dipping or by casting in a mold. Used for illumination and sometimes for decorative purposes. It is often used for emergency lighting.
