Definition
An instrument usually consisting of a black and white disk, 30 centimeters (12 inches) in diameter, with an eye bolt mounted at the center top of the disk, and to which is attached a pole or line. Used to measure the water transparency or turbidity of bodies of water by lowering the disk into the water to a depth at which the suspended disk ceases to be visible from the surface.
