Definition
A stiff cap that has three or four upright sides that project outwards. It is either black, violet, or red in color, and may have a tassel at the top. Used by a priest (black), a bishop (violet), or a cardinal (red), as part of the religious dress to identify the rank. It is also used to protect the head from the elements.
