Definition
An instrument consisting of a wooden sound board enclosed in an upright or horizontal wooden cabinet; equipped with a metal frame strung with a series of wire strings, a keyboard-operated, felt hammer and damper mechanism and two or three foot pedals. Used to produce sounds and chords by striking the strings with the hammers, thereby causing them to vibrate.
