- Definition
- An instrument consisting of a rectangular wooden case set on a base; equipped with pedal-operated bellows, a wind chest with a perforated bellows board on top, a series of free reeds, a set of stops and one or two keyboards. Used to produce musical sounds and chords by expanding and compressing the bellows and by depressing the keys, thereby pushing air over the unobstructed reeds and causing them to vibrate.
