Definition
An instrument consisting of a wooden sound board enclosed in a horizontal, wing-shaped wooden cabinet with an hinged lid, set on three or more feet; equipped with a horizontally positioned wooden frame strung with a series of wire strings, a partial or full-range keyboard and a series of plectrum-equipped jacks. Used produce sounds and chords by plucking strings with the plectra, thereby causing them to vibrate.
